Eminem Really Didn't Have Any Snare In His Headphones When He Recorded "Cleanin' Out My Closet"3/19/2016
It's atrue throwback week for Eminem, as the Detroit rapper recently performed his song "Fack" for the first time during Lollapalooza in Brazil, and now he's cleared up one of the biggest mysteries in hip-hop. Earlier this week, Em decided to randomly log into his Genius account and annotate the opening line on hisclassic song "Cleaning Out My Closet" where he said "Where's my snare? I have no snare in my headphones." Well, it turns out that that story was completely true, though Em didn't fully explain why he decided to keep it on the song.
"This was true. I was recording and couldn't hear the snare, the engineer had it muted for some reason. I kept it," he wrote in the annotation. So yeah, one of the greatest mysteries in rap history has been solved. For many reasons, including the classic Chapppelle's Show skit, it was a good thing that Em kept this part on the song, as it became sort of fun part of hip-hop history in its own right. It's even cooler now with the back story. If you want to dive deeper into Eminem's thoughts behind some of his most famous lyrics, you can check out more of his annotations on Genius here.
